About Us
Mission"Credo in Deum"
-- "I believe in God" the opening words of the Apostle's Creed
We are a bookstore specializing in Christian spirituality. We are here
to serve you. Everything on our shelves reflects something of what it
is to live life as a Christian. We would like to think we are a place
that has a firm grasp on the essential, orthodox, Trinitarian truths of
the Christian faith. Many of our books and other products focus on these
essential truths. Others represent wide ranging schools of thought and
style within the Christian community on important but less essential themes.
We provide products that reflect the rich diversity offered among the
many Christian denominations of Canada, and we stock aids to worship and
devotion that are endorsed by clergy.
We hope to be a place where the seeker might come looking for answers
to a question or two. We hope to provide resources in which experienced
Christians might find a starting point to discuss controversial issues.
We hope to be a place where Christians can meet, and a place where the
Spirit can work to connect people with products that will deepen knowledge,
faith and relationships, open hearts and change lives. We are a place
of choices. All are welcome in our stores.
Ripley's Believe It or Not should include the fact that all 2
billion members of the 30,000+ Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic denominations
(World Christian Encyclopedia) of the Christian church today, can
agree on one statement of faith: The Apostles' Creed. If it's been a sufficient
statement for the church for nearly 19 centuries, then it's a sufficient
statement to describe what we believe at Hull's Family Bookstores.
THE
APOSTLES'
CREED
I BELIEVE IN GOD, THE FATHER ALMIGHTY,
CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH.
I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, HIS ONLY SON,
OUR LORD.
HE WAS CONCEIVED BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
AND BORN OF THE VIRGIN MARY.
HE SUFFERED UNDER PONTIUS PILATE,
WAS CRUCIFIED, DIED AND WAS BURIED.
HE DESCENDED TO THE DEAD.
ON THE THIRD DAY HE ROSE AGAIN.
HE ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN
AND IS SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER.
HE WILL COME AGAIN TO JUDGE THE LIVING AND THE DEAD.
I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT,
THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH,
THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS,
THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS,
THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY,
AND THE LIFE EVERLASTING.
AMEN.
Our Logo
The biblical theme
of this logo, is an ancient Christian symbol: The sign of the 'fish.'
There are several Old and New Testament references to the imagery of the
fish (Habakkuk 1:14-17; Mt. 4:19; Mk 1:17; Lk 5:10). Under the new covenant
of the New Testament, the symbolism is transformed to our new understanding
of the character of God. Jesus called his disciples to invite men and
women to a changed life, by teaching them about the Good News.
The Greek letters for the word "fish" form an acronym for Yasous
Christos Theou Hyos Soter (i-ch-th-u-s), which means "Jesus Christ,
God's Son, Saviour", representing a central tenet of Christian belief.
Thus, the early Christians used the sign of the fish as a secret symbol,
to help Christians recognize each other, to find places of worship and
to protect themselves from persecutors. For example, a person meeting
another on the road, hopeful of shared spiritual outlook, would casually
draw half of a fish in the dust with their foot. If the companion recognized
the start of the symbolic greeting, they would complete the image with
another sweep of their foot.
We appreciate your faithful patronage at Hull's, a family owned and operated
business. Thank-you for allowing us to share our firm roots in faith,
and we hope we have served you well.
